Thursday, February 28, 2008/ ULAA Press Release

T

he National Administration of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has invoked its constitutional authority and submitted a request for a Special Session of the National Board of Directors.

In an official letter to the Chairman of the Board, Mr. James Larsah, the National President of the Union, Mr. Emmanuel Wettee, pointed to “paralysis that is crawling upon the Union as a direct result of the rancor and infighting that has engulfed the National Board of Directors” in recent times.

In recent weeks the public has witnessed intractable disagreement among a good number of Board members on the one hand and the leadership of the Board on the other.

As a result of the rancor, the Board has not been able to appropriately handle matters related to the Notice of Elections, presidential nominations to the Elections Commission, nominations and approval  of new members of the  Electoral Panel.

President Wettee cited Article 55 (d) of the ULAA Constitution which gives the National Administration the authority to submit a request to the Board for Special Sessions or Emergency meetings of the Board to discuss and resolve pertinent issues impeding the progress of the Union.

Stressing the need for the requested Board session, the ULAA Chief Executive noted the public utterances and counter utterances on functional issues of the Board is adversely affecting the smooth running of the Union’s electoral process in this elections year.

He then observed that this development has a high propensity to seriously jeopardize the electoral process and cast a constitutional crisis upon the Union.

The ULAA boss informed the Board Chairman that the focus of the anticipated Special Session will be to derive workable strategies that will remove hurdles that are hindering the smooth progress of the electoral process and not in any way intended to interfere with the working of the Board.

Concluding, President Wettee encouraged the leadership of the Board to be sensitive to the urgency of his request, considering the impact of the prevailing stalemate and act expeditiously on his request and notify him as to the concurrence of the Honorable members of the Board.
