The 33rd National General
Assembly of the Union of Liberian
Associations in the Americas (ULAA)
kicks off in Providence, Rhode
Island, today, September 21, 2007.
The Assembly, which is held
annually, is expected to run from
the 21st to the 23rd
of September. According to the
National Assembly Preparatory
Committee, the Plenary Session,
which will mark the official opening
of the Conference, will commence at
9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22,
2007 at the Community College of
Rhode Island Providence Campus in
Rhode Island.
Mr. Arthur K. Watson, former
National President and member of
ULAA’s Council of Eminent Persons
will serve as keynote speaker. It is
expected that hundreds of Liberians,
representing ULAA chapters and
friends of Liberia will converge at
this year’s Conference which comes
at a time when ULAA’s rating is
soaring owing to the recent
successful campaign for the
extension of the stay of Liberians
on the Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
It is also expected that several
members of the City Council of
Providence, the State Legislature of
Rhode Island and Rhode Island’s
members of the United States
Legislature will attend this
auspicious ceremony.
This year’s conference is also
attracting humongous attention
consequential to the conduct of
elections for the leadership of the
National Board of Directors. Also,
several distinguished personalities
have indicated their intentions to
attend the occasion to pay respect
to outgoing Chairman, Mr. Anthony
Kesselly who is believed to have
lifted the profile of his office
during his tenure. Mr. Kesselly
two-term service as Board Chairman
comes to an end on Saturday with the
election of his successor.
Additionally, the Conference is
testing a new format which will
provide opportunities for the
engagement of the attendees on
issues like social services,
immigration, investment and other
areas of importance for the Liberian
Diaspora.
In view of the well planned,
resourceful and unique activities,
ULAA National President Emmanuel S.
Wettee and National Leadership
Council’s Doyen, George Curtis, are
calling on all members of the
National Leadership Council, the
Board of Directors, citizens and
friends of Liberia to brace
themselves for the occasion.
