Maryland (August 14, 2007):-The
Union of Liberian Associations in
the Americas (ULAA) has begun
massive preparations for the holding
of the 33rd National
General Assembly slated for
September 21-23rd, 2007
in Providence, Rhode Island.
In a release signed by National
Secretary General Issac Zawolo, ULAA
says it has put together a 39-member
National Conference Committee as a
first step in facilitating the
smooth conduct of this very
auspicious undertaking.
The Committee constituted and
mandated to begin work immediately
comprises distinguished
personalities from Liberian
communities across the United
States. Those appointed to the
Committee are as follow:

The Chairperson of the Conference
Committee, Mrs. Danlette Norris, is
a former President of the Liberian
Community Association of Rhode
Island (LCARI). She was also a
vice-presidential candidate in the
elections which brought the present
ULAA Administration to power. By
profession, Mrs. Norris is a Social
Worker with many years of
distinguished service. She brings to
the Committee a vast wealth of
experience and a history of
unflinching commitment to advocacy
and community service.
Mr. Sam Togba Slewion, the National
Co-Chairman, is a professional media
personality and a community
activist.
Mr. Slewion comes to this position
with a vast level of experience in
organizational activities both in
the Liberia and the United States.
He served as former Secretary
General of the Press Union of
Liberia, (PUL), former Vice
President and Board member of the
Liberian Association of Pennsylvania
(LAP), President of the Delaware
Valley Chapter of the Sinoe County
Association in the Americas (SCAA),
Regional Representative of the
Family Planning Association of
Liberia (FPAL). His current
positions include Member of the
Advisory Board of the Center for
Survivors of Torture, an affiliate
of the Liberty Lutheran
Organization, Resource Staff of the
Liberia Media Project being
implemented by the University of
Massachusetts-Boston, member of the
Advisory Council of the Diaspora
Project of the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission of Liberia
and a member of the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU). Mr. Slewion
presently serves as the Chairman of
the External Affairs Committee of
the Union.
The National Secretary to the
Committee, Mr. Writhers Nyenie-wea,
is the current General Secretary of
the Organization of Liberians in
Minnesota. He also brings to the
Committee a wealth of organizational
skills and experience as a former
student activist and current
community advocate.
In separate telephone conversions
with the Chairperson and
Co-chairperson of the National
Conference Committee, the ULAA
National President reiterated his
confidence in the appointed members
of the Committee and expressed the
hope that the Committee will deliver
despite the limited time available
for planning.
