October 29, 2004:- Press Release
ULAA DENOUNCES RENEW ACTS OF VIOLENCE IN LIBERIA
Report coming out of Monrovia this morning indicates that there is a massive outbreak of violence in the City leading to the destruction of lives and properties. The report further indicates that the conflict may have religious undertone, with the burning of churches and mosques in the Monrovia area. ULAA strongly denounces these acts of violence coming at the time when our people are yearning for peace. The Union further calls on all those responsible directly or indirectly to desist from these lawless maneuvers, so that normalcy can return as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the National President of ULAA Mr. Arthur K. Watson is in close contact with authorities in Monrovia, as well as the Liberian Ambassador accredited to the United States his Excellency Charles Minor, in monitoring the events at home. It is now confirmed that a curfew enforced by UNIMIL has been imposed to restore calm in the affected areas. More information will be release as soon it becomes available.
The Union further calls on Liberians to close ranks and avoid the enemies of peace from dividing us on religious lines. Liberia's proud history as Country where all religions exist in harmony should not be destroyed by a few zealots and malcontents, whose only desire is to perpetuate violence against our people.
Issued by authority of the National Administration.
Signed
Wilmot Kunney
NATIONAL GENERAL SECRETARY
